If you’d like to add massage into the mix,
opt for the 80-minute Moor Mud Soak.
The treatment starts with a 40-minute
massage, followed by exfoliation, and
then plenty of relaxation time in the
tub so you can just float away. Another
treatment unique to the Avello Spa is
their Paraffin Wax treatments for the
hands and feet. The wax is applied warm
and as it hardens, it traps in the moisture
you need to leave your skin feeling silky
soft. This is an incredible way to add extra
hydration to a manicure and pedicure.
For tired, achy, dry feet and legs —
basically, anyone who wears a ski boot
— Suzanne recommends the Gehwol
product line. One of her go-to items
is the Fusskraft Blue, which contains
rosemary, pine and lavender oils, which
act as natural antiseptics while soothing
chapped, dry feet. There’s also the Leg
Vitality, which uses avocado oil, algae
extracts and vitamin E to help with
moisture balance. From Europe to Africa,
another favourite of Suzanne’s is the
Moroccan oil Body Soufflé, a whipped
body moisturizer that hydrates parched
skin with Argan oil and creamy shea
butter.
CALMING THINGS DOWN
If your skin is feeling rubbed raw, tight
and sensitive, it needs a hero, and that’s
where the team at the Whistler Day Spa
comes in. Using a new product from the
Dermalogica Ultracalming range, their
Winter Rescue Facial is a 75-minute skin
saver. After a thorough skin consultation,
your therapist will customize the
products used in the treatment to suit
your specific skin needs. Now it’s time
to settle onto your heated massage
table, relax in the candlelit room, and
start to de-stress. The treatment begins
with a cleanse and exfoliation followed
by a pressure point facial massage. The
serums used for the massage contain
oat and botanical actives, which work to
minimize redness, and Oil of Evening
Primrose, Sunflower Seed and Avocado
Extracts to act as defenders. This is
followed by a relaxing neck, shoulder and
scalp massage.
The first of two masks is then applied.
The Hyaluronic Acid Moisture Bond
holds 1,000 times its weight in water
for incredible skin hydration. While you
receive a hand and foot massage with
heated oils, a Cool Oatmeal Contour
Mask is going to work. Spa Owner
Stacey Gaff explains that this helps
constrict the blood capillaries that are
the cause of the red and blotchy look
so many of us display over the winter
months. The oats work in tandem with
ginger and red hogweed to soothe and
calm the skin. The treatment is finished
off with Dermalogica’s Ultracalming
Serum, which helps with hydration and
tackles redness, while the Barrier Repair
cream adds a velvety rich protection layer
that acts as a shield against the ravages of
winter weather.
To keep your skin feeling loved and
protected, Stacey suggests washing
your face with tepid, room-temperature
water, especially if you’ve recently come
in from the cold. Because she knows
that a ski holiday is often jam-packed
with activities, the Whistler Day Spa
also offers the Winter Rescue Facial as a
50-minute treatment option. It showcases
all the same products but not as much
massage. I know which one I’d choose!
